Engineering services for the renewable power sector

NERC Testing, Modeling and Regulatory Compliance

Ready has performed hundreds of PRC assessments and MOD standard required testing for generator owners and transmission entities across North America. Our engineers are capable of testing and modeling even the most unique systems. Whether your system is hydro, thermal, wind or solar, Shermco and Ready can help your facility achieve regulatory compliance.

PRC-002: Disturbance Monitoring and Reporting Requirements MOD-025: Verification and Data Reporting of Generator Real and Reactive Power Capability
PRC-005: Protection System, Automatic Reclosing and Sudden Pressure Relaying Maintenance

MOD-026:

Verification of Models and Data for Generator Excitation Control System         or Plant Volt/Var Control Functions
PRC-019: Coordination of Generating Unit or Plant Capabilities, Voltage Regulating Controls and Protection MOD-027: Verification of Models and Data for Turbine/Governor and Load Control or Active Power/Frequency Control Functions
PRC-023: Transmission Relay Loadability MOD-032: Data for Power System Modeling and Analysis
PRC-024: Generator Frequency and Voltage Protective Relay Settings MOD-033: Steady‐State and Dynamic System Model Validation
PRC-025: Generator Relay Loadability VAR-501: Power System Stabilizer (PSS)
PRC-026: Relay Performance During Stable Power Swings
PRC-027: Coordination of Protection Systems for Performance During Faults

EMT Modeling for Renewable Generation

The number of renewable generation sites is growing, and as a result so is the need for Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) modeling. EMT modeling provides a more detailed response of renewable behaviors than can be achieved through positive sequence modeling. It is used to study systems in more depth and is increasingly required by ISOs.

EMT Model Validation:

Develop a site EMT model, utilizing PSCAD, and validate it against a positive sequence model, as is required by CAISO, ISO NE, ERCOT and others.

Detailed Short Circuit Analysis:

Perform short circuit analysis considering unbalanced faults, harmonics, transients and develop Voltage Controlled Current Source (VCCS) models for Inverter Based Resources (IBRs).

Interconnection Studies:

Perform studies for weak interconnections or areas of high renewable penetration.

Detailed Insulation Coordination and Transient Overvoltage (TOV) Studies:

Perform insulation coordination studies and determine overvoltage levels due to switching events.

Shermco does not offer or provide engineering services for projects based in North Carolina. If a North Carolina project requires engineering services, those services are contracted out to a North Carolina licensed engineering firm.
