Lab Session: Electrical Safety for Qualified Electrical Workers
Technicians and supervisors are often hesitant to perform tasks on medium- voltage equipment without some prior training or experience. This one-day lab session pulls all the pieces together for planning and executing specific tasks on medium-voltage energized equipment. A planning session is followed by hands-on practice in Shermco’s training substation under the supervision of our field-experienced instructors

Low and Medium Voltage Switches
*Need Digital Chalk account to sign up, click to create account.A switch can be used to route power, connect a circuit to another power source (like a tie switch), or just open and close within a circuit. A switch may even be fused–which just means there is a fuse which will help limit current. There are many types and styles of switches based upon the manufacturing style, insulating medium, and voltage level.

Low to Medium Voltage Circuit Breaker Maintenance & Testing
Many industrial customers choose to perform general testing and maintenance on incoming utility substations and downstream substations within the plant perimeters. This class provides the information and hands-on training to test and maintain most of the major components of the substation except for the main transformer and protective relays.

Medium Voltage Cable Construction
*Need Digital Chalk account to sign up, click to create account. In this training session, we will go over the 6 different layers of a medium voltage cable. We will explore each component in detail, including each componentʻs purpose–starting with the conductor and working outward toward the cable jacket. We will also go over the multiple conductor types and conductor selection parameters which must be considered, insulation types and design purposes, and various types of metallic shields typically seen in the field.

Medium Voltage Cable Testing and Diagnostics Series
*Need Digital Chalk account to sign up, click to create account.Medium voltage cable systems are the backbone of electrical systems worldwide, yet often they are the most ignored part of the power system…until there is a failure. Cable systems today have higher failure rates than ever before due to aging, environmental stresses, and improper installation. An effective cable testing program can help reliability managers prioritize cable replacement or repair, prior to failure. This helps prevent unplanned outages, equipment damage, and electrical accidents, which ultimately reduces costs.
